Well, if you joined this site, you probably like fantasy in general, and chances are you like dragons. And here, you can discuss your favorite creatures of lore and legend! I (of course) love dragons, but I also like nearly any non-humanoid mythical creature, the scalier the better.
So let's start out with this: What's your favorite fantasy creature?
For me this is, of course, the dragon. And while I like all dragons, I'm talking mainly about the classic western dragon, with four legs and two wings. The Phoenix comes in a close second, though. A REALLY close second.

My favorite fantasy creature is also of course the dragon. But I also really like the unicorn. I think when most people think of unicorns they think of little puffy clouds and pretty rainbows. But the truth is the are really strong, and tough. They are also very pure, which is another reason why I like them so much.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want to fight against a unicorn... I can imagine that that horn would be pretty deadly, if it wants to be... Not to mention, they're each probably about several hundred pounds, and having that all come down on you by means of rock-hard hooves wouldn't be very enjoyable, either. But yeah, their generally very pure creatures... (love the book "A Glory of Unicorns" Edited by Bruce Coville... a great collection of short stories.)
And now that I think about it, I think my second favorite fantasy creature is the Gryphon, then third would be the phoenix. Gryphons just seems so... noble to me. And they've got that similar structure to dragons, which I like.

Well it just so happens that not only have I read the book "A Glory of Unicorns" but Bruce Coville is my favorite author! I love that book. He also has a series called "The Unicorn Chronicles" which I've read the first and second and waiting for the third to come out. He is the reason why I got into fantasy books, and then into dragons!

Let's see... seems like we talked about this somewhere else already... maybe on Draco Lounge somewhere... Or elsewhere on this site... oh well. Yeah, Bruce Coville is a great author. I like his unicorn books the best (I read the first one in the Unicorn Chronicles a long time ago), but he also has some good sci-fi books, if I remember correctly. Although they're more funny sci-fi than serious, realistic sci-fi. But yeah, up till reading his unicorn books, I believe that I thought of unicorn as little weak fantasy creatures... but he quickly convinced me out of that belief.
What other fantasy creatures do you like?

Yeah, I thought we had talked about this somewhere. Yeah, it was probably on Draco Lounge. I also like his sci-fi books as well. It was actually his sci-fi book "The Monsters of Morley Manor" that got me into him, and fantasy books. Other than dragons and unicorns, I really don't know any other fantasy creatures. Have any creatures you think I might like to research?

Well, as I said earlier, I really like Phoenixes and Gryphons (aka Griffins). I don't know any really good books with phoenixes in them (unless you count Harry Potter), but if you like to do research by reading good fantasy books, then I suggest "The Dark Lord of Derkholm" an its sequel, "The Year of the Gryphon" (might be spelled Griffin), by Diana Wynn Jones. Or you may just prefer to look it up on the internet. But I love Gryphons nearly as much as Dragons. They have a magnificence that is similar to Dragons, but also unique.

Ok, thanks, I'll have to look that book up. I'll also look Gryphons up online. They sound really beautiful. Thanks again.

The Year of the Gryphon...The Dark Lord of Derkholm... Ohh! I love those books! I read them when I was 11 or 12. Fuzzy but happy memories. Currently my favorite creatures are basilisks. Not the rooster/snake/bat but the crested snake kinda like in Harry Potter but in my story. My basilisks are fallen dragons. You know the Adam and Eve story? well I replaced the snake with a dragon and so when God cursed it and its followers lost their wings and legs and their eyes had the power to change other creatures into basilisks. So ya, my favorite creature is a basilisk.

Interesting interpretation of the Bible... I always did wonder why God would condemn a snake (which already crawls on its belly) to crawl on its belly.
But Basilisks, I'll admit, are pretty amazing creatures. In one of my story ideas (only the first part of it got put down on paper) I planned on making the main character more or less change into a basilisk (I think I posted it here... in the draconian library, the story where I was telling people to come up with their own ending). I never finished that story, due mainly to the fact that I have no good plot for it. I know the mechanics of that universe, I simply don't know what happens to the characters after they meet each other.
*realizes I am rambling on...*
But basilisks are cool. Anaconda's used to be my favorite animal, if that gives you any idea to my love of giant serpents. If I had to describe them... they are like water given shape, flowing as smoothly through the grass as a creek might roll through the countryside. And yet... they have the power of a tidal wave, and the speed and agility of a bolt of lightning, cutting through the sky on a stormy midsummer night.
... My attempt at being slightly poetic, though I'll admit those similies are a tad bit overused in literature in general.

Well, I don't have anything in particular when it comes to fantasy creatures, but in the Bible it wasn't a snake to begin with. It was a serpent like a lizard. God took his legs away, so he'll then crawl on his belly. I just thought I might clarify that.
