Recently (and to my great relief), my high school's basketball team had the last home game of the regular season. I had to go to every home game to play in pep band. In all truth, I hate sports in general. Or perhaps not hate them, but I see them as generally a waste of time. And I do hate being forced to watch them. It often makes me extremely depressed. Not to mention, I possess not an ounce of school spirit.
But anyway, that's just me. How does everyone else feel about basketball? (and don't turn this solely into an argument about how wrong I am about it being a waste of time. I realize that sports are not intrinsically a waste of time, but they are a waste of time to me, based on my priorities in life. You can talk about it, but that's not what this thread is about.)

Basketball is really fun to watch and really fun to play if you're good... I'm not good at all.
You're wrong that they're a waste of time. If you were on a team, you definitely wouldn't feel that way. You can have fun and make friends. You CAN see them as a waste of time to watch, but being on a team is far from a waste of time. You have to look at the other side of the coin.

I think they are a waste of time too. I don' see a point to them. I guess Basketball is ok, I mean it's better than Football, but I really don't like sports either.

As I said, I don't think it's a waste of time. Just a waste of time for me - any moment I'm not doing one of a list of things that I deem important/necessary is a waste of my own personal time. I.e. necessary things like sleeping, or important things to me like writing stories, which has been high on my list of priorities since about two months. Even things I enjoy - e.g., I watched the movie "Batman: The Dark Knight" the other day, and though I enjoy the movie and liked re-watching it, I was disgusted at myself for wasting two and a half hours not doing something productive. However, as I said before, I realize that they aren't truly a waste of time - just something that I consider non-productive as per my priorities in life.
And I've been on basketball teams before (about eight straight years from 1st grade to 8th grade), and I realize how much fun it can be to play. Although my enjoyment was somewhat hampered by the fact that I have asthma problems and am not in the best of shape because of that. However, that was also before I realized how much I enjoy writing and how important I consider writing to be.
Also, one thing I don't like about basketball and sports in general - the bad attitudes. When the ref makes a bad call, everyone boos. People curse at the other team. The riots that can result from things like the Super Bowl. The list goes on, though I can't think of too many more examples at the moment. If people watch it for love of the game or enjoyment from watching skilled people play, why don't they act like it?
