Okay, anyone here like to ride horses? In truth, I live out in the country and we (being my family and I) own three, though we don't ride much. In truth, while I like horses (more than I used to), I don't get that much enjoyment out of riding them. But that's just me. Yet again, anyone ever ridden a horse and if so, did you like it? Any... uh... interesting esperiences? I've got quite a few interesting experiences, but I'm too tired to get into it now.

Well, I don't own any horses, but I do love them. I would love to own one. I really like riding them, but I've only ridden a full sized horse once. I really haven't had any interesting experiences, because like I said, I haven't ridden that many. So, I guess that's all I can say, that I love to ride horses, but haven't read that many of them.

We (meaning my family and I) just found out two days ago that one of our horses has skin cancer of some sort (I believe it was melanoma). I don't really mind that much... I mean, we live out in the country, and I'm kinda used to cats disappearing and such. Not to mention, another of our horses and our dog just died within the past year, so maybe I'm getting used to it... who know. Anyway, it's just sort of the circle of life, I guess. They said that we could have surgery done to get the tumor removed, but it's progressed far enough already that it probably wouldn't help much.
However, she'll probably live for another couple years, so it's not like she's going to drop dead tomorrow. And she's a fairly good age for a horse already (20 years old), so it's not quite as surprising as if it had been a younger horse.
Sorry, now I'm talking about sad horse stories. One of my funny ones (I'll explain any horse terms that I think someone who doesn't ride horses might not know) - Once I was riding one of our horses in the round pin (for anyone who might not know, that's just a small, circular, enclosed area, often used for horse training and beginner's riding lessons) so that my mom could teach me some technique (as I said, I'd never been a huge fan of riding in my family, and perhaps wasn't that great at it at that point in time.) Suddenly, the horse starts cantering (aka running) and I'm semi-freaking out, since she's going full speed when I have a metal fence just a couple inches from my side at all times. I'm worried I'm gonna end up hurting my leg or something. Eventually, between my mom and me, we get her to settle down. Turns out that one of the stirrups (where you put your foot in when riding) of the saddle had fallen off, which had been what had spooked her. It's a fun story to retell. Perhaps not quite as fun when it actually happened.

Awwwh, I'm sorry to hear about your horse. At least you won't be too heartbroken when she dies, and at least she had a long life.
That is a really funny story! But I wouldn't want to be on that horse at the time. I'm glad things turned out ok.

Another of our horses (She died a couple months ago - she was 43 years old, which is really old for a horse) didn't like me much. Or so I think. Once, when I was riding her bareback, she walked right under the branch of a thorn tree. I had to grab onto the branch to keep from being totally knocked off her back. I ended up sliding down onto the ground (my descent slowed by the branch), and I ended up getting a nice long cut down the side of my face because of it. (It wasn't serious, but I was little at the time) That, among other things, made me highly biased against that horse. She never listened to me very well.
