Ok, since I myself have been persuaded into believing some conspiracy theories, I wonder what all of you believe that the government may be doing (or not doing). Tell us whether or not you believe the government, what the MAAAAHHN!!!!1, is doing to the innocent "sheeple" in our whole sick sOciety. Or perhaps you like to end the debate and call these conspirators insane, nonsensicle, or thinking way too far from the box. Either that, or you'd like to challenge those who think you're crazy, and tell them you just an escapegoat. Whichever stance you take, voice it!

there are very few conspiracy theories that I'd call insane, though some don't make a lot of sense and a few only exist because fanatics really do or don't want to believe it.
Only a couple come to my mind at the moment. One is the whole Roswell and Area 51 thing, where people believe that the governments had actual proof of aliens for a long time. I think there's definitely something fishy going on concerning that military base, though I doubt that it's got anything to do with aliens. However, the government is definitely too secret about their operations and research there - they've got to be hiding something.
Also. there's the theory that President Roosevelt actually knew that the attack on Pearl Harbor was going to happen, but didn't stop it so that he'd have an excuse to get involved in WWII. I don't put a lot of stock in this one either, though I think it's a possibility.
And, very similar to the previous theory, is the theory that the government knew that the attack on the world trade center was going to happen, but didn't stop it so that the US could have a reason to get involved in the Middle East. There is actual documentation of the FBI being warned about it. I don't think that Bush himself knew about it, but I would believe that other higher-ups in the government (Vice President Cheney, for example) may have known about it. However, I'm also highly biased against the Bush administration, and that could be influencing my opinion~
But I love hearing about conspiracy theories... admittedly, some of them are serious, but a lot of them are just fun to laugh at, or they make you think about the possibilities. (Yes, aliens really have invaded earth already!!! Everyone, run for your lives!!! But WAIT! There's nowhere to run - they've already taken over the government!!!
... that's the kind I laugh at. ^_^)

Well, I guess that's where we need to part. About the Roswell and Area 51 conspiracy, I don't know for certain that aliens aren't being tested, but there was a project called project blue book. I don't know the specifics, but one man tried to disprove the existence of aliens and it completely worked against his theory. I myself haven't much say except that I would like some proof and that I will not be surprised if intelligent life isn't present outside of Earth.
Then there's the 9/11 conspiracy that I am most certain doesn't exist. If that were really to happen, someone would have come out with it. Just look at Abu Grahb. The goverment wasn't able to keep that quiet, but 9/11 was kept shut for this long? I'm not too savy to that belief. Plus, you don't think that we can just take the oil? We really don't need a reason to go into Iraq, we just have a moral stance comparitively. Islam, England, Spain, and other entities that were once superpowers had the entire world at their feet and behaved much worse than we have. Within a hundred years Islam had followers that competed with the Christians, and I'm sure they didn't do it by spreading love, peace, and joy. That's why I don't think that 9/11 was permised by the government because they have the internet working against them now, and information can just go without problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was intelligent life outside of Earth, either. But if it's intelligent enough to get to earth, then I don't think it would be intelligent enough to be captured by the government. Unless they're not being held against their will... I guess they could be just talking with government officials, in which case they might have agreed not to leave Area 51... So it's possible, I guess. I can only hope that the day will eventually come when one of the issues when electing a president is whether or not to open all the files of Area 51 and the Roswell military base. ^_^
And as I said, I'm highly biased with the 9/11 conspiracy. My parents hated the Bush administration with a passion, and I must say that their hatred has leaked into me as well. If I'd liked Bush, then I probably wouldn't believe the theory. However, I will say this: It seems to me that covering up something that the government did do (like Abu Grahb) would be much harder than covering up something the government failed to do (like stopping 9/11). Also, if they can keep aliens hidden in Area 51 (which they may or may not be doing), then I don't see why they couldn't cover up a little thing like information being passed up the government's hierarchy.

You say that you are biased because you detest the Bush Administration, but I absolutely detest them as well. I feel that the Bush Administration was an abominable presidency and feel that Bush created a large scar on the United States that will be difficult to fix for this and perhaps future presidencies. That's exactly why I don't believe that it was the government because you're talking about the same bumbling idiot that can't say nuclear and replaces better with "gooder", yet they can a) keep this quiet b) unable to rule out the possibilities of probable flaws. Everything that happened beforehand, though, the exploitation isn't even a conspiracy theory. That I can agree with. The government has absolutely used 9/11 to get credit card companies to keep track of your purchasing habits, taxing people more for very meaningless causes, surprisingly even more worthless than any Democrat can conjure up, and definitely used 9/11 to cause the hatred against Muslims so that the people will back up Bush, which I feel backfired, but still. Most of this is primarily corperations, which is really the bodies running the country. You see it by lobbyists, you see it on how they treat big companies by bailing them out while normal people have to scrap for money, and especially is shown in the drug companies, which Kevin Trudeau's book got me into getting deeper into stuff like politics and try to get a better understanding of what's going on.

True enough. Much of the Bush administration not intelligent enough to hide something like that. I feel sorry for all the English teachers that had to put up with Bush for eight years... not to mention all of the people in the U.S. who will now never be able to pronounce 'nuclear' correctly...
And while making Muslims into a scapegoat might have backfired after a while, I do like to keep in mind that somehow, the people of America managed to vote Bush in again for a second term... (no real offense intended to anyone who actually did vote for him... but really, he's not the smartest guy in the world, and Cheney was probably the most influential Vice President in history, and that wasn't a good thing)
But anyway, back to conspiracy theories... well, actually, I don't have much else to say about any more theories. We just need to get back on topic. I'll make a politics thread where we can continue the rest of this discussion, if we want, but we'll keep this mainly for conspiracies (which, admittedly, have to do with politics, but still...)

Well, addressing your concern about Bush's second term, I'm actually not surprised. It's a hard truth, but the American people are just stupid. It's scary seeing some of the stuff that's on TV (Hole in the Wall?) how we vote (Obama Girl?) and who we are more concerned about dieing (Michael Jackson?).
But enough of that, yes, this is a conspiracy thread, and I'll go with one conspiracy theory that seems a little weird, but my reasoning makes sense. There's a lot of conspiracies following JFK's death, and many people think of others rather than Lee Harvey Oswald. There's one theory that it has something to do with NWO, again, trying to get JFK out of office because he was threatening global government. Then there's one that's actually funny where a guy on a radio show things that Zapruder put a gun in his camera and shot him. The endgame was that he wanted to impress Marilyn Monroe, but she died a bit before JFK did, so that doesn't really make sense. I don't know, but I read through a book called "Freakenomics" which compared the KKK with Realtors. Besides that point, it said that JFK was exploiting many of the KKK traditions and slowly deteriorating their group, so to my belief, I feel that the KKK possibly did it. Anyone say otherwise?
