Another self-explanatory thread title. So what is your favorite dragon book or dragon series (sorry if this is sort of similar to the Fantasy Books topic... this refers ONLY to dragon books and ONLY to your very favorite book/series)? Mine is the Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini (the first book is Eragon), which I may end up making a separate thread for later. I love the dragons in it, and the plot is very good. I also like the fact that Christopher Paolini was only 14 years old when he started writing it (although he's much older now). The third book (which was supposed to be the last book in a trilogy but Paolini ended up making it too long to put it all in one book) comes out September 20th (or somewhere around that time). I'm planning on going to the midnight release at Borders.
But what's you most favorite dragon book or series?

Continuing the conversation from the "types of dragons" thread, I can't say that I know any good books that would give you any real insight into dragons. Most of the dragon books I read only use "four-legged, fire breathing creature" as their basis for dragons, without much real myths and legends from different cultures. I will give Dragonology that - it helped me learn about a couple of old myths that I probably wouldn't have heard, otherwise. But other than that, most books I read just go off the physical idea of dragons, and not the history behind them.

=/ I actually haven't read any dragon books aside from Eragon... well there was another where the main bad guy was a dragon... or at least looked like a dragon; it was actually a demon that was cursing this town. I forgot what the book was called... and I forgot the author's name... I know he is Ted Dekker's partner in writing, and I think his last name starts with a 'P'.
Anyways, back to Eragon & Eldest, those two books were really good. The movie kinda ruined everything though. -_- After I watched it with one of my aunts (I didn't want to go alone) I wanted to beat a donkey!! >_<

They didn't develop the characters enough, the cinematography was horrible, and they didn't even attempt to capture the true essence of Eragon. I didn't even cry when - Brom died. In the movie, he was just there to teach Eragon, and he didn't have a personality that you missed... As I said, I love Eragon! But that movie made a mockery of it.

ok, thanks guys. I'm going to get the book Eragon, and from the sound of it, I won't go see the movie. It always seems like the book is better than the movie, except in the case of Lord of the Rings. I didn't read the book, but I do love the movies, and I've talked to people who have read the book, and they say the movie is just as good. Anyway, back to the subject, thanks again for the info!!

I think the LOTR movies are better than the books, just because (even for me, who likes reading long books) they just seem to go on and on. You'll have, like, 20 pages just describing them walking five feet! That's obviously an exageration, but you get my point. That is the only case where I think the movie is better than the book.

Yeah, I never have read them, like I said, but I've seen them and they look LONG. I too, love to read long books, but like you said I think it's a bit much. I LOVE LOTR!!! I have all three of them on DVD. They are my all-time favorite movies ever! When I watch them, they make me happy .

Back to the topic.... (lol)
I just started re-reading a good dragon series. It's not my FAVORITE (as I've already said, that's Eragon), but it's REALLY good, nonetheless. The first book is called The Fire Within; it's about a college student who tenants in this lady's house, who makes clay dragons. But the dragons are alive! But the main character won't admit that they are alive. A new book just came out (4th book) which surprised me, since I thought the third book seemed to conclude the series quite nicely. I haven't bought it yet (waiting for it to come out in paperback), so I don't know about the new one yet.

oh, yeah back to the topic, lol...
oooohhhhhh, sounds gooood!! I'll have to look that one up, but I should probably get that picture book and Eragon first, I've got a list of books to read now!! That's good too, I haven't read a good book in quite a while now, because I hadn't found any.

Just one thing with The Fire Within and that series - it does get onto some religious topics. But it doesn't bash any religion like The Golden Compass... it just presents its own dragon-based creation-of-the-world belief (for the most part, not until the third book). I know some people who wouldn't like it for that reason, so I just thought I should warn you... But it's not offensive to religion like The Golden Compass.

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. I don't think it will bother me. I've read some other books where dragons started the world, and then humans take over, and I'm fine with that. But thanks for respecting my beliefs.

I don't know if I believe everything the book says, but it gives in detail different catagories of dragons. Plus it has many different dragon legends, which I really liked. The book is called "The Book of the Dragon" by Ciruelo. It was in the "oversized books" section in my library because it is quite large. All around, it was a pretty good book.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll need to keep an eye open for it - see if I can find it at a nearby library or Borders. If it's an oversized book, I'm willing to bet that lot more work was put into it than that ripoff of a book called Dragonology. Sounds like it's good!

Yeah, it is good. But I don't agree with everything it says. Like for example, it says dragons have human, elf, and dwarve slaves. I've never heard of that before, nor do I really believe it. There were some other things, too I didn't really believe. I mainly liked it for its pictures, and the legends. I also learned some about the different catagories of dragons, and their social statis. By the way, the picture I'm about to make my avatar on here (by the time you read this, it will be my avatar), is a picture from this book.
